AI governance is the set of policies, controls, oversight processes, and accountability mechanisms used to manage how AI systems are developed, deployed, monitored, and reviewed.

Good AI governance is not just a policy document. It is an operating system for evidence, accountability, and review — determining who is responsible, what must be logged, how risk is monitored, and what records exist when questions arise later.

Why AI governance exists

AI systems increasingly influence decisions, automate workflows, and interact with regulated business functions. Governance exists to make those systems reviewable and controllable.
